At this session, we will highlight the improved understanding of current clinical challenges with respect to persisting symptoms associated with Lyme disease. This debilitating public health issue is prevalent in New England (& across the nation). We invited Dr. Embers to guide the presentation on:
- Challenges to diagnosing Lyme borreliosis at different phases of disease
- Ability of Borrelia burgdorferi to suppress immune responses & how this may affect serodiagnosis
- Evidence for post-antibiotic persistence by the Lyme disease bacteria
- Role of immunity in treatment efficacy & the curative potential for combination antibiotic treatment
